Declaration of Independence from the War in Vietnam
It seemed there was hope for the poor
Through the Poverty Program everyone
adore
But the money went to war
With it, our boys and sirs
Our rights don’t exist
Yet why must we fight with our fist?
For another country we don’t know
Acquiring our rights is slow
This is an attack on the poor
Kicking the poor out the door
Our rights, they do ignore
But there was some good in the bad
Something that wasn’t so sad
We saw unity between the white and black
Segregation in the battlefield was lack
But now they stand together as a pack
Together, they will watch each other’s
back
There are ways to fight oppression
We don’t need to use aggression
There are other ways to get attention
A protest to show our confession
Martin Luther King is the one who
changed the world
Now we have a world where our races are
mixed and swirled
This is the end of the poem
Of America, our home
